As parents, watching our kids head off to college (or even just start high school) is both exciting and emotional. We pack their bags, give them pep talks, and hope we’ve equipped them for what’s ahead.

When my oldest son went off to college to play soccer, he told me that he and his teammates had a little “ritual”—popping ibuprofen before and after every game.
