Expat Life in Transition: Wellness Through the Chaos
There are seasons in life when it feels like everything is shifting—internally and externally. When there is so much transition. When your calendar, your heart, and your home are all in motion.
Right now, I’m deep in one of those seasons.
In a 7 day trip, I flew from Japan to California and back again.
I moved our international dog back to the States.
I shifted our entire household in California in preparation for our summer relocation.
I renovated a rental property and secured new tenants.
And then flew back to Japan to manage another renovation project—and prepare for yet another move within Yokohama to keep a space for our family's future jaunts.
I'm working through, winding down the last of my in-person wellness workshops locally here at the school, the club and at my home. Keeping a space for the wellness team I cultivated here while being an expat the last 3 years.
All of this while holding the emotional weight of my youngest son’s upcoming high school graduation, final exams, and the bittersweet planning of a beautiful and fabulous parent celebration to memorialize the love, laughter and support from ladies of our mama tribe.
It’s a lot. And I know so many of you—especially my fellow expat women—understand this rhythm.
We hold multiple homes, responsibilities in multiple time zones, and often wear multiple identities all at once.
But here’s where I take a different path:
I don’t sacrifice my wellness in the process.
Jet lag didn’t take me out—because I prepped with intention.
I aligned my circadian rhythm before I flew. I shifted my meals to California time days in advance—eating breakfast, lunch, and dinner on schedule to reset my digestion and energy. I stayed hydrated, moved my body (even on the plane), and carried my trusted wellness tools with me across the globe.
Because staying well isn’t optional for me—it’s essential
And that’s the message I want to share with every globally-minded, wellness-driven woman reading this.
You can stay centered even when life is in transition.
You can move through massive change without losing your rhythm or your health.
And you deserve to feel strong and supported while doing it.
The next 45 days are packed for me:
✦ Final exams for my son
✦ Last of my wellness workshops at school, club and home
✦ High school graduation ceremony
✦ A Yokohama house move
✦ Our return relocation to California
✦ And the beginning of a brand new chapter—empty nesting
And that last one is truly the new chapter for me. After 26 years of showing up first as “Mom,” I’m standing on the edge of something new. It’s tender. It’s exciting. It’s unfamiliar.
But I’m not afraid of the shift—because I’m carrying my strength, my rituals, and my purpose with me. And these parts of me have been in process for years just for this moment.
To the women who are also navigating transitions—whether it’s a move, a shift in identity, or simply the pace of modern expat life—this is who I support.
✨ The wellness-minded
✨ The globally mobile
✨ The women who want to stay well through it all
This is what I do. This is who I am. And I’m here to help you step into your next chapter grounded, empowered, and radiant.
Until then, I’m holding the line on wellness—no sacrifices, no misses--because I know it’s what will carry me through the highs and the lows the the next 45 days.
Take a moment to think deep—what’s holding you steady right now?
With strength and soul,
Munisha
